If the system doesn't work, change it.
Protest is not the first step in any process towards change. First,
see how the system runs and find out if you can change things from inside
this process. For instance, if you can meet with someone of importance
and discuss issues of importance to you in order to resolve them, go for
it. Unfortunately, it's not always that easy.
It's great when you can work within the system, but if you can't,
then work to change the system. If those in power refuses to meet
with you, don't stop there. Demand to speak with them. Speak out, to the
masses, to the press, to others in power. Do not let yourself be
silenced. Continue to work towards your goals.
Remember, the system is not completely static. It had to come into
being sometime. Don't assume that since you've always seen it that way,
it's always been that way. The universe is undergoing constant
change - it just sometimes needs a little push.
Don't protest simply for the sake of protest, but when it's called
for, don't avoid it.
